| Save Your Baby Some Ouchies! I know that for some of you new Moms, after your baby arrived, usually the day after birth, they are given a Hepatitis B immunization. Your pediatrician will tell you that your child needs the 2nd immunization one-month later. You do not have to worry about getting the 2nd immunization at that time. Please take your child for the 2nd Hepatitis B when they are due for their two-month immunizations. I was an employee of a county Health Department. I know that each state has different mandates for what immunizations are needed for school age children. Each state differs as to how many of some immunizations are given by starting school, but as an infant, it is not mandatory that an infant get the 2nd Hepatitis B at exactly one month from the 1st. You can take your child to the pediatrician for immunizations, but they will be very expensive. You pay for an office call, as well as the cost of each immunization. If you check with your area health department, you can get them very reasonable, sometimes free of charge. The health department can let you know what immunizations are due, and at what age they need to get them. One other very important item is the immunization record. The health department can usually give you an immunization record. Take it with you to your pediatrician, or wherever you decide to take your child for immunizations. Make sure the dates of all immunizations are entered in the record, under the correct place. You must have an immunization record with you when they enter school. So many parents never had an immunization record for them. They would call us, as well as their pediatrician, to try and piece together a complete record. I hope I was able to help some Mom’s out there as far as immunizations are concerned. They even have some shots that are combined together, which will also save a few children from getting stuck more than they need to be. Check with your health department, you will find that they can help with other things as well. I just wanted to say one more thing. Congratulations! Darlene Greenwood Rittman, Oh |
