My SIDS Experience
By Lenore Chapman
Have you or someone you know lose a child to SIDS? It is very
heartbreaking. I know, I am a victim. The hardest part of losing a child is
not knowing what caused it. My son was 45 days old and very healthy
when SIDS took him from me. I have been searching to see if they
finally found out what causes it. There still is no answers, only guesses.
It is very heartbreaking, that after all these years since I lost my son,
they still can't find out what causes it. Every year there are nearly 3,000
healthy babies that are taken from their parents due to SIDS. These
babies are usually between the age of 2 to 4 months old. There are
more male babies than female that die from SIDS.
Losing a child doesn't just affect grown-ups but small children also. At
the time my other son was 2 years old. He knew something bad
happened, but didn't know what. He helped me with his little brother.
Doing the big brother thing, and mommy's big helper. When we
explained to him that his baby brother went to live with Jesus, and that
he won't be back, I could tell he was sad. All my attention went back to
my first born and dealing with the lost of my second born.
It was a hard road to go down but I made it.
I still think of my son Brian all the time. Birthdays and the day he died
are the hardest for me. It has been 31 years and I still cry for him.I know
he isn't alone anymore, he has his pap pap and his Aunt Joanna to play
with him now. He isn't lonely anymore.
My first born, Eric still talks about his brother Brian and wishes he would
have lived. All he wanted was a little brother. Instead he got a little
sassy sister which he adores.
